Wasn't it actually socrates who did this? He put his students head under water and drowned him to teach him this lesson. It annoys me to no end how people steal stories and quotes from the ancients and attribute it to their own wisdom. I suppose the illiteracy of the modern man is to blame for this.

This philosophy has changed my out look on life in a number of ways. I have spent the last 3 years working in a company that did air emissions testing for power plants. I am now working in Japan as an English teacher. What I realized working in the blue collar industry is a number of things but one thing was, I was put in a management position very early on. I probably wasn’t ready for it but the position needed to be filled and I did my best. Some days I would get overwhelmed and ultimately I got demoted because I was unable to pass an exam. Regardless it gave me a look of what it really means to be in a position with a lot of responsibilities. The Vice President of the company was an interesting individual. He had his personality flaws as we l do and we did butt heads on occasion. What I realized though is due to his knowledge and competence people would follow his lead. He once told me “the key is to know 10% more then the person you are talking too.” On top of that, for the most part, he knew how to use people’s strengths and push us to learn. Qualities that make a good leader. I did my best to learn what I could from him. But I imagine it like this - there will be hard times in life. Mentally preparing yourself for those hard times makes you stronger. The people who hide behind every ism out there are hiding in themselves and in their delusions. When true crisis happen these types of people break like a twig and in some cases decide to take their lives as well as others. Because they have either a warped or nihilistic worldview. I remember working on a job where there were a lot of problems and the VP showed up and I felt a sense of comfort because he helped us work through the issues. Didn’t scold us, just helped us get it done and told me next time to “watch for these things.” Basically giving me the knowledge to diagnose the issues. That’s the kind of person I want to be. The kind of person where when the world falls away I can still find the strength to stand even when other people are giving up. I don’t think this means being emotionally bankrupt. I think what it means is understanding my own emotions and applying them when necessary and to expand my mental knowledge. I just find it funny that some people find emotional masculine competence offensive or toxic. I mean. Really? If that’s the case, if something were to happen. Like a building catching on fire. The competent people are going to be the ones running it and putting out the fire and trying to get people out. The emotionally fragile people are going to be the ones filming it for TikTok. You want to know what being a man is? It’s not being buff or stoic. It’s being able to do what is right regardless of the dangers and regardless of what people think of you. Because when the day comes you need to be strong. You will stand firm and the weak will be blown away in the wind.

This is the exact sitiation for me I'm almost 17 years old I was on my warrior mentality last summer training 6 hours a day, my main goal were boxing and running but also did swimming, body building. Just like to prepare for navy seal training. My knee got injured 8 months ago while running and been to three different doctors by now. Still working on it and doing both physiotherapy and strengthening excercises at home. Yet haven't give up because at the end of the day you're alone in this world and the only person that is gonna feel bad if you don't make it is you.

Comparison can be destructive. The world is rough and mean. As Jordan Peterson said, "the world is against you . . . obviously." But as I told my own subscribers, many times the greatest enemy in life can be yourself. And you make yourself an enemy by comparision to others. If you make 80K a year and have 200K in the investment arenas you will feel badly if you have a friend who makes 250K and has a million in his. But you will feel good about yourself if you compare yourself to someone who makes 30K and has nothing in his accounts. But maybe that 250K person works 80 hours a week and hasn't had a vacation in ten years. The point is, your journey is yours. How much you want to work and gain to get the greatest benefits you can from your short time on earth---and most of those benefits, my friends, are not financial. Hope this helps someone----Charles

so how did he get better? this is what I hate about people who talk about they were addicted and depressed but they never talk about the journey or process on how to do it its just oh one day I felt better & my life change. Thats bullshit. Oh I prayed & now I'm recovered that's complete bullshit man it just makes those who are suffering feel even more hopeless. Why cant people just be real you cant be addicted to alcohol & just stop you need a substance just to stop that's very dangerous advice alcohol slows your brain so if u just quit you could easily die. Honestly the video just made me pissed off lol Let god take control is just bullshit if he was truly addicted to alcohol he needed pills for the withdrawal he doesn't talk about that at all & that's so fuckin dangerous & makes this whole message toxic
